App’Glass is a smartphone-controlled system which controls the light intensity inside a home or a building.

This system is based on an existing technology: smart windows. These windows change from transparent to translucent using the same method as an LCD.

The smartphone is networked with all building windows. The application has two modes available to the user: Firstly, the manual mode where the user selects one or more windows and sets the opacity. In this way you control the light entering the window to make the room lighter or darker. Secondly, the automatic mode in which the system tries to change the actual brightness of the room towards predefined user brightness. Light sensors send information to the system which will change the opacity of the windows without any user intervention.

App’Glass needs electricity to work. Solar panels were added to the system in order to make it energy self-sufficiency. A battery were also been added to ensure the system operates accurately even without any sunlight.

A final feature was added to App'Glass . The information about the amount of light in the room is processed by the system which can estimate whether an artificial light is needed. In the event that this light is turned on when it is not necessary, the user is informed by his application.
