World energy demand will increase by 40% between 2007 and 2030. Most of the increase has been supported by the use of fossil fuels. At the same time, we know that energy and environment need to be considered as linked issues. Much work has already been done as developing alternative power sources. In this project propose a new kind of hydrolian.
We have developed an innovative hydrolian that uses a vertical axis of rotation and has retractable blades, an approach not previously explored in this domain. This retractable blades reduce the resistance to the water while at the same time increasing the rotation speed of the turbine. The vertical axis of rotation reduces the physical space required, allowing it to be adapted to many more smaller rivers.
This project allows the creation of an entirely new market in hydro-electric power, on a smaller scale and in smaller rivers, without the need to construct dams. Our targets are singulars living near a river and who are aware of the importance of turning to green energies, with minimal environmental impact.
